Confronting the Opioid Crisis: A School-based Education Outreach Program
Check back here for updated Dates and Times!
Funded by NNLM MAR, Empowering public school students through implementing an evidence-based, age appropriate, and standards-driven prescription opioids awareness program basically entailed facilitating students to acquire basic functional health literacy skills, competencies, and knowledge needed to promote and enhance their health status by reducing potential risks and dangers of the opioid crisis. Overarching purpose is to begin to engage students in life saving conversations integrated into their formal school curriculum. Building on previous health literacy initiatives, the overarching purpose was to diversify students’ experiences by introducing them to prescription opioids, heroin, and fentanyl content, and engaging them in life saving, age-appropriate, peer education conversations, and other hands-on activities integrated into their formal school curriculum.
